JIEEC 2024: SUSTAINABLE EVENT
The 18th JIEEC Conference has been awarded Erronka Garbia certification as an environmentally sustainable event
Electrical grids are a fundamental component of the energy system and a key element to ensure a sustainable energy transition; the event is therefore fully in keeping with the certification’s philosophy.
Accordingly, we are rolling out environmental measures to minimise the negative impacts on the environment, as proposed by Erronka Garbia, a seal awarded by Ihobe, the Basque Government’s environmental management agency.
The measures are applied in six core areas of action: mobility, energy, water, procurement, infrastructures and waste.
- Specifically, we are implementing measures focused on:
- Fostering sustainable mobility:
We therefore recommend you use public transport to travel to the event. If you need to go by car, we would appreciate it if you would car share. And if you have an electric car, you should use it. BEC has a 100% electric vehicle pool. - Energy efficient management by means of purchasing energy efficient equipment, appropriate design of energy systems, and spearheading the use of renewable energies. Specifically, 53% of the energy used at BEC is from renewable sources.
- Green procurement, including catering, merchandising, signage and accommodation with environmental certification.
Locally sourced, seasonal products and filtered Km0 water will be available during the coffee and lunch breaks at this event. The materials used at this event are sustainable and up to 100% recyclable as well. - Contracting facilities and premises with better environmental performance.
- Ensuring correct waste treatment.
We have implemented the Erronka garbia methodology for the first time this year; we intend to continuing doing so in the future, by gradually incorporating more actions in the field of sustainability.
Thank you for helping to make this event environmentally sustainable!
